New England West Skating Club (NEWSC) is committed to creating a safe and positive environment for members’ physical, emotional and social development and ensuring that it promotes an environment free of misconduct. Skaters are vulnerable to misconduct in locker rooms and changing areas due to various stages of dress/undress and because they are often less supervised than at other times. Adherence to a SafeSport compliant locker room policy enhances privacy and reduces the likelihood of misconduct. Accordingly, all members shall adhere to this locker room policy at all times.
Cell phone/Mobile Device
Cell phones and other devices with recording and photographic capabilities are prohibited from being used in the locker rooms/changing rooms. If phones or other devices must be used, they should be taken outside of the locker room/changing room.
Locker Room
During Learn to Skate
The locker room may be used by Learn to Skate skaters and accompanying caregivers for putting on skates and gear. No changing of clothes is allowed in the locker room at this time. The cell phone/mobile device policy must be adhered to.
During Club Programming
The locker room will be closed following the Learn to Skate program. Skaters may use the hallway benches for putting on skates and gear and may use the hallway restrooms.
During Special Events
NEWSC may provide locker rooms/changing areas for club-sponsored and U.S. Figure Skating-sanctioned events taking place at the Deerfield Academy rink. For these events, if locker rooms are made available, NEWSC is required to follow current SkateSafe policies. We will post specific SkateSafe locker room policies prior to each event. The cell phone/mobile device policy must be adhered to.
