CODE OF CONDUCT

The New England West Skating Club is committed to maintaining a healthy and safe environment. With this Code of Conduct, the club seeks to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all members using the ice and of those present at this facility. Adherence to this Code will ensure quality lesson and practice time for all home club and associate members, as well as other USFS members who guest on any ice sessions.

 

Smoking is prohibited at this rink, which is also a drug-free environment. Deerfield Academy protocol requires that cell phone and other electronic devices be used only in a courteous and quiet manner apart from the ice rink. Cell phones and other electronic devices are prohibited on or adjacent to the rink with the exception of skating coaches who use these devices for instructional purposes. Cell phones may be used to record from the boards. All other cell phone usage must take place off-ice.

 

All attendees must exhibit good sportsmanship and courtesy toward their fellow skaters, coaches, parents/guardians of skaters, U.S. Figure Skating officials, and guests, as well as any attendant Deerfield Academy representatives.

 

On Ice Safety and Conduct
• Skaters may only begin skating when the ice has been cleared from the previous session.
• During the first five minutes of a session, the perimeter may only be used for stroking, etc. Confine spins to the center. No programs will be played.
• Ear buds are not be allowed at any time on any session.
• Pattern dance on Skating Skills sessions (moves) is allowed, but should not be considered “on program.”
• While on the ice, skaters have the responsibility to be conscientious and aware of other skaters around them.
• Each person’s level of skating ability must be respected by more experienced skaters.
• Unsafe or discourteous skating is forbidden and non-abiding skaters will be required to exit the session.
• Skaters must not stand and talk in the middle of the ice.
• A skater who falls should get up as quickly as possible.

Parental and Supervisory Conduct and Responsibility
• All parents and/or supervisors will be present during the entirety of the Learn to Skate program for any child 12 years old or younger.
• All parents and/or supervisors will encourage their children to be respectful and courteous to all attendees, to skate in a safe manner, and to avoid any bullying or other activity that would disrupt a lesson or practice session.
• All parents will refrain from sideline coaching and defer all instruction to the coach.

THIS CLUB IS COMMITTED TO COMPLETE ADHERENCE TO THE U.S. FIGURE SKATING ASSOCIATION’S COACHES’ CODE OF ETHICS, STANDARDS AND CONDUCT, PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT, AND SKATER CODE OF CONDUCT.
